Patients normally look forward to the day when they will receive their new dentures. They are happy about the prospect that former dental problems will soon be over. Then, the day arrives when the new dentures are inserted and they are frequently shocked that a new array of dental problems is just beginning. In order to receive the maximum possible service and satisfaction from new dentures, the patient must understand certain relevant and pertinent facts, whether they have previously worn dentures or not. Many misconceptions and erroneous ideas exist concerning the use and care of complete dentures. When patients still have a few remaining teeth, they have an immediate denture made prior to getting the teeth extracted, so that when the teeth are extracted and immediate denture is placed immediately. They never have to walk around with no teeth. A few months later when most of the bone shrinkage has occurred, a new denture is made which will fit much better to the newly shaped ridge. This denture can be custom made and the patient can chose the shape, color and any changes they may want in their new denture to make it look more natural.

This picture above is a overdenture which clips on to two or sometimes four implants for stability. The is mostly used on the lower where patients loose a lot of bone and it can also be used on the upper so a denture patient doesn't have to have the part of the denture that fits up in the roof of their mouth. That part of the denture is omitted.
